High-quality recovery housing accredited by the Vermont Alliance for Recovery Residences (VTARR). Recovery Housing is defined as a safe residential environment that promotes individual recovery through positive peer group interactions among house members and staff. Recovery Housing is affordable, substance-free, and allows the house members or residents to continue to develop their recovery plans and become self-supporting, with the ultimate goal of transitioning to permanent housing. We believe in multiple pathways of recovery. We offer a variety of support groups on-site such as AA, NA, All Recovery and Meditation. All residents are expected to engage at Journey to Recovery Community Center for Peer Support Coaching and additional support groups, including but not limited to: All Recovery, NA, Parents in Recovery, Emotional Sobriety and more. Each resident must have a recovery coach through JTRCC.

Provided in partnership with Vermont’s Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living’s Hireability program. Additionally, each resident will work closely with their recovery coach at JTRCC to outline employment goals and follow through on applications, interviews and other necessary steps to achieve employment. We work hard with each resident to help them become employed, find purpose, and achieve a sense of accomplishment every step of the way. We also use the Department of Labor employment specialists to support the success of each resident.

We refer each resident to North Country Primary Care and/or to Northern Counties Health Care. We work with Bristol Dental for dental care as well.

Recovery Support Services are a set of culturally competent, nonclinical, evidence-based activities coordinated in accordance with a written individualized recovery plan of care that documents the substance use disorder and reflects the needs and preferences of the individual in achieving the specific, individualized goals that have measurable results and are specified in the plan. The type of services provided can include a range of social and other services that facilitate recovery, wellness, linkage to services providers, and other supports shown to improve quality of life for people, and their families, in and seeking recovery from substance use. Each resident is required to work with a recovery coach at JTRCC. Journey to Recovery coaches are highly skilled and trained. Each Coach is there because they have shared or lived experience, have lived through hardship and found a stable and happy life. The goal of our work, which we keep in our center focus at all times, is to support each person to live a stable and happy life, free of unhealthy coping mechanisms. Ben’s House is a zero-tolerance home. Therefore, recreational use of any substances is prohibited.

Life skills training for adults is a way to learn practical skills that can help people navigate the challenges of adulthood. These skills can help people in both their personal and professional lives. Examples include, but are not limited to self- care, meal planning, emotional intelligence, Attachment Theory, Trauma Responses, Time Management, Budgeting, Financial Literacy, Money Management, Communication, Decision-Making, Household Maintenance, Problem Solving and more. This is work that is accomplished through the work with each residents’ recovery coach. Life skills is a big part of successful recovery. The ongoing partnership between Ben’s House and Journey to Recovery is integral to the success of each resident and the program as a whole.
